RTI helps a student to obtain fee reimbursement money

This is yet another story where RTI has helped a student to obtain fee reimbursement money which was held up due to negligence in a government office. Sanjeevani hopes that people who read these success stories get inspired and start filing complaints to resolve their issues instead of waiting endlessly or bribing someone at government offices. Complete details below the fold.

Mr. M. Naresh is a 2nd year M. Pharm. student at Brown’s College of Pharmacy, Khammam, AP. He had applied for a fee reimbursement under the provisions for EBCs (Economically Backward Classes). All of his friends, who had filed for the reimbursement at the same time as him, had received it. When he inquired about his case, he was told that it was pending at the District Welfare Office for unknown reasons. It remained pending for several months.

In November 2010, with advice and help from Santhosh Goutha, who is a member of the Lok Satta Sanjeevani team, he decided to file a Right to Information appeal for his reimbursement with the Khammam District Welfare Office and Kakatiya University. Within a month of filing the RTI, he received a reimbursement of Rs. 20,000, the same amount that was reimbursed for other students. Mr. Naresh is thankful to the RTI Act and the Sanjeevani team for helping him in resolving his issue.
